After seeing limited action while redshirting last season, David Eziomume is a player who could be primed to take a significant jump in his development in 2025.
With Phil Mafah having exhausted his eligibility, there should be opportunities for Eziomume to carve out a role for himself. Adam Randall, who moved to running back ahead of the playoff matchup against Texas, and true freshman Gideon Davidson are the other backs expected to play prominent roles.
Eziomume showed a lot of promise in the spring game, averaging more than six yards per carry. His biggest run was a 30-yard touchdown scamper that helped secure the victory for the offense.
This summer, Eziomume is continuing to put in the work, as he trains with Brad Lester, an offseason running backs coach who calls himself the “speed specialist.” Some of the other backs Lester has been working with include NFL players Nick Chubb, Tank Bigsby and Woody Marks. Justin Baker, a freshman at Tennessee and Georgia running back Rod Robinson have also trained with Lester this summer.
Now that Eziomume has had a year to acclimate, the Tigers are hoping he’s ready to show why he was one of the more highly-touted backs in the 2024 recruiting class. Rivals ranked Eziomume No. 248 overall and as the fifth-best back in his class.
As a senior, Eziomume was well on his way to having an overly impressive season before an injury ended it after just six games. He still managed to run for 1,155 yards and was leading the state of Georgia in rushing yards when he was injured. Despite his season being cut short, he was still named all-district.
Eziomume turned in a 268-yard game against Milton, who was ranked No. 8 in the state of Georgia at the time. He also had a 205-yard performance, as well as one where he went off for 326 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-27 upset win over Robinson, earning Georgia Player of the Week honors by Georgia High School Football Daily.
