Clemson Adds Punter to Roster

Clemson has added another kicker to the roster ahead of fall camp.

Charlie Reed, a former goalie for the Clemson soccer team, will join the football team as a walk-on for the upcoming season. He is listed as a placekicker on the roster, but the redshirt freshman kicked field goals and punted for his high school team (Vandergrift, TX).

Reed is the younger brother of offensive lineman Ian Reed, a former four-star recruit who signed as a member of Clemson’s 2023 recruiting class.

Entering fall camp, the Tigers are facing some uncertainty surrounding who will be doing the punting in 2025. Redshirt junior Jack Smith and walk-on Will McCune battled for the spot during the spring. Placekicker Robert Gunn also did some punting.

Smith has been viewed as the leading candidate to win the job, but both had unremarkable performances during the spring game. Smith had two punts with neither traveling 40 yards. McCune had one punt for 40 yards.

Adding Reed to the mix should provide more competition in the fall and at one of the very few spots where the Tigers face legitimate questions.
