It’s not very often in today’s world of recruiting that fans have true suspense. However, that is exactly what you got with today’s announcement from Bryce Perry-Wright.
After several days of uncertainty regarding how this one would play out, the five-star defensive lineman (Buford, GA) announced a commitment to Texas A&M on Saturday from Las Vegas. Texas, Clemson and Miami were all finalists, and both the Tigers and Longhorns had reason to feel good about where they stood at certain points over the past few days.
Clemson was seen as a frontrunner throughout much of the process. Perry-Wright has arguably been the Tigers’ top target in the 2026 class and he visited Clemson more than any other school. He even has a family connection to the program.
Both Texas and Texas A&M are schools known to have deep pockets, though, and while Clemson was able to go head-to-head with Texas and win out for the services of four-star DE Dre Quinn two weeks ago, this recruitment provided a different result, with the Aggies coming out on top.
The Tigers do already have three defensive linemen committed in the class. On top of Quinn being in the fold, four-star defensive end JR Hardrick announced a verbal pledge coming off the official visit weekend last month. Three-star defensive tackle Cam Kody committed earlier this year.
However, landing Perry-Wright would have meant securing a commitment from one of the top defensive linemen in the class, and from a recruit who is capable of playing both inside and outside. Whether the staff turns its attention toward another target is yet to be determined.
247 ranks Perry-Wright No. 32 overall, No. 2 among all defensive linemen and No. 5 in the state of Georgia.
