Klubnik Raves About Transformation of Bulked Up Randall

CHARLOTTE — By all accounts, Adam Randall is making the most of his move to running back.

The former wideout was moved into the backfield just days before Clemson played at Texas in the opening round of the College Football Playoff last season. Despite having just a few days of practice, Randall proved he was a capable back in that matchup against one of the best defenses in the country.

His move to running back has ignited a ton of conversation about what the Tigers’ running game might look like when they open the season at home against LSU on August 30, and during the ACC Kickoff this week in Charlotte, quarterback Cade Klubnik brimmed with confidence when speaking of Randall’s transformation.

“He is smart, he has picked up a lot of it really quick,” Klubnik told The Clemson Insider. “He is still working some receiver stuff too, but he looks really good.”

Part of that transformation has included adding some bulk, upwards of 10 pounds, which Klubnik insisted has not slowed Randall a bit.

“He is looking good,” Klubnik added. “He is almost 240 now, 235. And still moving.”

Randall is just one piece of a deep but fairly inexperienced running back room. True freshman Gideon Davidson, one of the top five backs in the last recruiting class, turned in an excellent spring and figures to factor in prominently.

However, despite all the hype surrounding the addition of Davidson, it’s Randall that came out of the spring atop the depth chart, and he is the one who looks primed to run out there first when the season finally does kick off.

After redshirting last season, David Eziomume also looks ready to take a jump, and Jay Haynes should be back sooner rather than later, after tearing an ACL in the ACC Championship win over SMU last December. Jarvis Green and Keith Adams Jr also return.

“We got a great group in that running back room,” Klubnik said. “It is a really good room, it is pretty loaded. They are going to be able to help us a lot. It is going to be a fun fall camp to see who really shines.”
