Legacy CB Commits to Clemson

Clemson has secured another commitment for its 2027 recruiting class, and this one comes from inside the family.

In-state cornerback Christian Chancellor tells The Clemson Insider that he has committed to the Tigers. Chancellor, a legacy recruit out of nearby Daniel High School, picked up his offer last month after working out at a session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.

After sitting on the offer for a few weeks, Chancellor decided now was the time to jump on board.

“It has been on my mind since I got the offer,” Chancellor told TCI. “I just had to take it under God and talk to God about it. That was mainly where my decision comes from. Also talked to my family a good bit. It just came to me that (Thursday) was the right day to do it for sure.”

“It is a great program,” Chancellor added. “They have built something special there. I love the coaching staff, the culture is great there. I have everything I need there.”

Chancellor is the son of former Tigers’ standout Chris Chancellor, who was a multi-year starter in the Clemson secondary back during the early years of Swinney’s tenure. The elder Chancellor started 44 games throughout his career, recording nine interceptions.

“He is pumped, he is really pumped,” Chancellor said of his father. “I would not be surprised if he’s not crying.”

Now, Chancellor gets the opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps, possibly even sporting the same number.

“It feels great,” Chancellor said. “It is definitely going to lead to some pressure. I will have a lot of high hopes and all that stuff. Other than that, it will be great. Wondering if I might be wearing No. 38 or not. We will see.”

Chancellor chose the Tigers over other offers that included Southern Miss, Sacramento State, Howard and ETSU, among others. However, it was always an opportunity to play at Clemson that the legacy recruit was aiming for.

He becomes the third commitment for the Tigers in the 2027 class, joining four-star LB Max Brown and four-star QB Kharim Hughley. Now that his recruitment is over, Chancellor plans to get busy helping recruit the rest of the class.

“One hundred percent going to be helping out,” Chancellor said. “Got to get the boys over there. Got to get the best ones to come to Clemson.”
