Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media on Thursday afternoon and gave an update on his team from a health standpoint as the Tigers kick off fall camp.
Swinney said the Tigers are in a “good spot” health wise right now and that walk-on linebacker Billy Wilkes is the only real long-term injury, as he tore his ACL in the spring game.
Swinney said running back Jay Haynes, defensive ends Armon Mason and Ari Watford, and offensive lineman Watson Young will be limited to begin fall camp but are “doing really well.”
“Those guys will be rolling pretty quickly,” Swinney said. “I think Watson actually is going to be full go tomorrow, but those other three guys are all doing good. They’re doing really well. We’ve got a good plan with our medical staff as far as their ramp up into full go.”
Meanwhile, tight end Olsen Patt-Henry, wide receiver Juju Preston and walk-on running Peyton Streko are working their way back from short-term injuries, according to Swinney.
“Not long term, but just out for a few days here or there,” Swinney said. “Olsen had to have his tonsils out, so he’s probably going to be a couple days late before he can get going. Just something that he needed to go ahead and do so it’s not something he’s having to deal with during the season. Juju’s battling a little hamstring, and then Streko is battling a little shin pain. So, they’re short-term. It could be two weeks, could be six weeks, but that’s kind of a short-term thing.”
