Swinney on Woods’ Absence from Wednesday’s Practice

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media on Wednesday evening and commented on star defensive tackle Peter Woods’ absence from Wednesday afternoon’s practice at Jervey Meadows.

Swinney confirmed that Woods missed the practice because he was sick, as The Clemson Insider previously reported.

“He tried to go, but we just didn’t want him around anybody,” Swinney said. “He was sick as a dog. He was sick this morning, and it just got worse as the day went. So, they just didn’t want him around anybody.”

Woods enters the upcoming season with 59 tackles (11.0 for loss), 3.0 sacks and two forced fumbles in 23 games (12 starts) over his first two seasons at Clemson.

Last season, Woods was moved outside to end before moving back inside to the interior. He finished the year with 32 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble.
