CLEMSON — One of the top edge rushers in the next recruiting class is set to make his first-ever visit to Clemson.
Four-star Rashad Streets (Millbrook, Raleigh, NC) will be on hand when the Tigers open the season against LSU on August 30. With this being his first trip to campus, Streets is anxious to get a firsthand look at the Clemson program.
One of the biggest things he will be watching is defensive ends coach Chris Rumph and how he meshes with his players.
“Seeing how coach Rumph interacts with the defensive linemen, that is pretty important,” Streets told The Clemson Insider. “You know you are going to be interacting with your position coach a lot. Just seeing how that interaction goes.”
Rumph went and watched one of Streets’ practices back in the spring, and since then, the communication has been pretty consistent.
“We talk a lot. I feel like he has been pretty consistent recruiting me,” Streets said. “The first time I met him, he came to one of my practices and was just watching me the whole time. From there, we just started texting and phone calls. He has been telling me I am pretty high on their board.”
The two are in the process of forging a pretty strong bond, and Streets has been very appreciative of exactly how transparent Rumph has been, particularly the advice on how to handle the high-stress recruiting process.
“I think he is real. You can kind of tell when some coaches are just talking recruit talk,” he said. “I feel like he is very genuine. Telling me how the recruitment process goes. And he is saying stuff you don’t even think about. I hadn’t really had a coach talk to me about how the recruiting process can get stressful and stuff. That really stood out about him to me.”
With the Tigers now having a new defensive coordinator in place in Tom Allen, the blue-chip talent is also interested in seeing exactly what his scheme will entail.
“Seeing the defense and how they work in general, since it is going to be my first time seeing them,” Streets added. “Haven’t even seen them in practice, so seeing how they work in tandem together. Seeing the scheme and how it all comes together.”
Then there is the atmosphere surrounding a big-time night game at Death Valley. That is something Streets is very much looking forward to experiencing.
“Another thing I am really looking forward to is the environment,” Streets said. “It is Death Valley. I know Clemson is crazy, and it is going to be a night game too. That makes it even better.”
247 ranks the 6-foot-4, 230-pound recruit No. 44 overall and No. 8 among all edge rushers. He also ranks as the top player in the state of North Carolina at multiple recruiting services.
Being one of the top-rated players in the class, Streets already has more than 30 offers from some of the biggest programs in the country. Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida State, Ohio State and Penn State are just a handful of the other schools he says are currently recruiting him hard. The Volunteers are considered by some to be an early favorite.
On top of his visit to Clemson, he also has dates locked in to Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Penn State and Tennessee. He is hoping to also set up dates with North Carolina and Florida State.
“Right now I am pretty open,” he said. “Just going out to places to see what might fit me best.”
Despite the interest the Tigers are showing, Clemson hasn’t offered, seeing as he has yet to visit. However, that box is about to be checked, and Streets is hopeful an offer will follow.
“It would mean a lot,” Streets said. “Just knowing the program itself, the background. How good they are. Like historically how good they are. Sending professional players out. That would be an honor.”
