Quarterbacks Update from Second Scrimmage

CLEMSON — For the second scrimmage in a row, Christopher Vizzina worked with first-team offense and for the second time in a row the Clemson quarterback had a good scrimmage.

The redshirt sophomore had another good day running the offense, while making a couple of big throws.

“He missed a layup on a little dump pass to the (running) back, but he got some reps with the ones today, so it was good to see him get in there,” head coach Dabo Swinney said. “That is two scrimmages in a row where he has really stepped up for us.”

Thursday was the second and final scrimmage of fall camp for the Tigers. Vizzina was one of the stars of the scrimmage again. According to Swinney, he has had a very good camp and is in position to help the team this fall.

“CV has made a huge jump. I am really proud him,” Swinney said. “I trust him. Hopefully, we can play him when we want to, but if we got to have him, he will be ready for us.”

It was not all Vizzina.

Starter Cade Klubnik played well, too. In fact, Klubnik threw four touchdown passes in the second scrimmage.

“He was awesome. Awesome,” Swinney said. “He was 5-for-10, 4 touchdowns, so he was efficient. It was a pretty good day. I would like for him to be 6-for-10. I’d prefer that.”

As Swinney said, they are done with stadium scrimmages for camp. The Tigers will conclude fall camp next Tuesday.

Now that the scrimmages are over, they will begin breaking down LSU later this week and will start preparing to play the SEC’s Tigers next week.

Clemson hosts LSU at Memorial Stadium on Aug. 30. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and will be televised by ABC.
