So far, Clemson has only offered one wide receiver in the 2027 recruiting class.
When the board does expand, four-star Iveon Lewis (Huguenot, VA) is one of the top candidates to nab one of those hard-to-get offers from the Tigers. The 6-foot-2 prospect worked out at a session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp back in June and was one of the more impressive receivers to do so.
Lewis is now set to return to Clemson for the Tigers’ big season-opening matchup against LSU on August 30, and he is hopeful that is the trip in which receivers coach Tyler Grisham extends the offer.
“He said at camp he really was impressed with me,” Lewis told The Clemson Insider. “He said he was looking forward to seeing me there for the game. I am pretty sure when I get there, that is going to happen.”
Since his camp appearance, Lewis has been hearing from Grisham regularly.
“I hear from Clemson at least like every day,” Lewis said. “They at least send me graphics. I talked to coach Grisham a week ago. He is a great coach. Talking to him, he is a really great guy. He likes to develop his players.”
Lewis already has more than two dozen offers, with Tennessee, Rutgers, Penn State, South Carolina, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina and Notre Dame being some of the other schools he is hearing from on a consistent basis.
After he visits Clemson for the LSU game, he plans to be in Chapel Hill the following Monday for North Carolina’s first game of the season against TCU. Florida State is also trying to set up a visit, as are both Rutgers and South Carolina.
However, Lewis insists that during his time on campus at Clemson, he felt something different, and it’s a feeling he just hasn’t been able to shake.
“When I went up, it just hit different,” Lewis said. “The way they talk about changing the program and winning. They have a different mentality there, and that is something I want to be a part of. And there is a great coaching staff there.”
Now he is ready to get a taste of game day at Clemson, and seeing as this will be his first time visiting for a Top 10 matchup of any kind, it’s something he is anxious to experience.
“Really just the atmosphere,” Lewis said. “I haven’t really been to a real, live, good college game. I am looking forward to that great atmosphere and great hospitality.”
Lewis is looking at releasing a list of his favorite schools at some point in the next few weeks, and possibly waiting until after official visits before making a final decision. Although he did not rule out the possibility of one coming sooner than that.
The blue-chip talent is looking for a strong culture, a great coaching staff and an offense he can thrive in.
“A great coaching staff, a great team that is going to develop me and help me be the best I can be. And a great play-style that I can fit.”
And he thinks Clemson offers those things.
“I feel like I fit in there perfectly.”
