Kelly Updates Health Status of LSU Ahead of Opener

It appears LSU will be fully healthy when the Bayou Bengals travel to Clemson on Saturday to face off with the Tigers in a widely anticipated Top 10 matchup to kick off the season.

Head coach Brian Kelly held his weekly press conference on Monday, and when asked about the health status of his team, he noted that he expects everyone to be ready to go.

Earlier in camp, several rumors circulated that quarterback Garrett Nussmier had suffered a knee injury during a practice, but Kelly would later reveal his star signal caller was only dealing with some tendinitis, and he was quickly back on the field participating fully.

“We had a couple of bumps and bruises, as most would, but I think at this point, as of right now, we expect everybody to be available to us,” Kelly said.

LSU comes into the season having dropped five consecutive season-openers, while Clemson comes in having lost each. of its last two.

This is also the first time a Top 10 Clemson team has opened the season at home against an opponent also ranked inside the Top 10 since 2013, when the No. 8 Tigers knocked off No. 5 Georgia 38-35.

Dabo Swinney’s team comes into the season as a popular favorite to compete for a national title. Clemson returns a ton of production on both sides of the football, including senior quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Swinney also hired Tom Allen away from Penn State after the Tigers failed to live up to expectations defensively in 2024.

“Clemson is obviously a top-ranked team,” Kelly said. “They reached the CFP. I know coach (Swinney) very well. 13 seasons of 10 wins, they are the epitome of consistency at the highest level.”

Kickoff is set of 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ABC.
