CLEMSON — Clemson’s left tackle Tristan Leigh spoke with the media Tuesday morning inside the Poe Indoor Practice Facility.
The media spoke to the veteran regarding Clemson’s Week 1 matchup against No. 9 LSU this Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Below is some of What We Heard from his interview.
Question: We talked about the offensive line earlier, what have you seen from the guys like freshman Brayden Jacobs?
Leigh: “We got a very talented group. These young guys. They’re very hungry. They’re eager to learn. They filled with questions. They’re just hungry to get better. We love those guys, man. They’re the best and they’re all going to be great players.”
Question: What’s it been like for you guys on the offensive line to see Adam transition to a running back?
Leigh: “Hey, he’s fast. I mean, it’s been great. Especially, the type of guy Adam is. He’s a great guy. He’s a great worker. And, you know, he’s making that transition. He’s always talking with us. You know, trying to learn as much as he can and ask questions about former backs and what type of questions like asked and stuff like that. He was just very open minded about it. And just ready to learn as much as he can to be great. And I think he’s going to be great for us.”
Question: Your coach was talking about short- yardage situations being something they wanted to see improved. What was something as an O-line that you looked back at and thought we could do better here?
Leigh: “We’re always trying to get better in every aspect. Short yardage, that comes with a lot of details, approaching every day with a focus and being honed in on those details. I feel like the rest takes care of itself.”
Question: You spend so much time in the offseason getting your body ready to play. Do you enjoy when you get out the iPad and start looking at game film and looking at opponents and saying “Ok, now I know and it’s not months away. It’s Saturday.”
Leigh: “We try to prepare all year like we’re playing on Saturday. Like approaching practice with that mindset every single day. I feel like that’s key in your preparation, not making anything different. Obviously, Coach Swinney talks about it, when you wake up for game week, everyone wakes up with a little pep in your step. But, I’m really just excited to go play with my brothers and lay it out there.”
Question: You guys are on social media. You see it every week, all season long. All offseason people have picked Clemson to win the National Championship. How do you guys as players internalize the level of expectation that’s going into the season?
Leigh: “Honestly, we’ve done a great job. I think we’ve been intentional this offseason about focusing. We talked about focusing on the one. Focusing on this one day, this one meeting, this one practice, and then just putting our heads down and working, then you get the outcome. We’re really focused on today. Like we have a big practice today. That’s where my focus is at. That’s where our team’s focus is at.”
