LSU head coach Brian Kelly apparently doesn’t agree with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s grading scale.
During his weekly Tuesday press conference, Swinney likened his team’s 17-10 loss against LSU this past Saturday to a “final exam” on the first day of class.
“It was a hell of a game,” Swinney said. “Down to the last play… It’s like getting the final exam, day one of class. They made a 65, we made a 58. Neither one of us were great.”
Kelly seemed to take Swinney’s comments as an insult to his team, as during his own Tuesday presser, Kelly fired back at Swinney and took a jab at Clemson’s head man.
“I thought we dominated them in the second half. So, he’s either a really good grader, for giving himself a 58, or he’s a really hard grader on us,” Kelly said.
“Or, he didn’t see the second half, which that might be the case – he might not have wanted to see the second half,” Kelly added.
Though LSU may have “dominated” Clemson in the second half after Clemson led 10-3 at halftime, Swinney’s team still had a chance to tie the game on its final possession. Ultimately, a pass from Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik on fourth-and-4 from the LSU 15-yard line fell incomplete with less than a minute left, sending LSU to its first season-opening win under Kelly. Clemson and LSU will meet up again to open next season when Clemson travels to Baton Rouge.
