CLEMSON — Clemson’s offense didn’t have the greatest opening day in last week’s loss to now No. 3 LSU, but there is hope.
In a game with only 31 rushing yards and many mistakes in the passing game, the eighth-ranked Tigers could not move the football with any consistency, as the offense with some of the highest expectations from the off-season fell short on the biggest of stages.
Clemson tight end Olsen Patt-Henry, who made an amazing third-quarter catch, spoke to the media about the offense and how they have responded since the game against LSU.
“We are just controlling what we can control,” Patt-Henry said. “I think we have a great plan for Troy, going out there, responding, and being the best versions of ourselves. I know that’s what we are going to do.”
After earning only 261 yards of offense, with 230 yards coming from the air, the Tigers came up seven points short on the scoreboard. Despite the ineffectiveness of the offense, Patt-Henry and the rest of the team are confident that they will bounce back.
“There’s nothing you can do about the result that happened, but focus on what we do on Sunday, what we do on Monday, what we do tomorrow, and the day after that,” Patt-Henry said.
When asked about whether he thought that the Tigers are still a good team and if he believes that they can still make a run, his answer was simple.
“One hundred percent. One thousand percent,” he said.
Even with the struggles that Cade Klubnik suffered during the game, being sacked twice and throwing an interception, while not seeing wide open receivers, Patt-Henry still trusts his quarterback.
“He doesn’t change up what he does, his routine. He’s been the same Cade since I’ve got here,” Patt-Henry said. “Win, lose, or draw, he is going to prep the same. Mentally, he’s still going to be the same, so nothing has changed.”
“It gives me a lot of confidence because I know my quarterback is going to be my quarterback. I know who is going to go out there, and I know what he’s capable of doing. It’s a great confidence to our room.”
Patt-Henry and the rest of the offense will get the chance to bounce back when they face the Troy Trojans on Saturday at 3:30 pm at Memorial Stadium in Clemson.
