Swinney’s Wednesday Practice Report

CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following Wednesday’s practice. It marked the final time Swinney will address the media prior to Saturday’s game against Troy at Memorial Stadium.

Below are some of the topics Swinney addressed with the media.

–Swinney was asked about the injury status of several players. He reported that wide receiver Antonio Williams and safety Khalil Barnes have done a little bit of work this week. Clemson will let us know if they are available or not when the availability report comes out 90 minutes before kickoff on Saturday.

–Swinney also said right guard Walker Parks practiced a little bit more this week than he did last week at this time. Parks dressed out for the LSU game, but did not play. He was available in case of an emergency.

–Freshman offensive lineman Easton Ware from Lynchburg, Va., will be redshirted, according to Swinney. He was battling a shoulder injury and they were trying to get him through the year, but the shoulder popped out again, so he decided to go ahead and have surgery. He will be out for the rest of the year.

–Swinney said tight end Ian Schieffelin will be available to play this week when the Tigers host Troy. The former Clemson basketball star was suspended from last week’s game due to a traffic incident on Aug. 17. He was initially charged with driving under the influence, but worked out a plea deal to knock the charge down to reckless driving.

–Swinney has been very critical of quarterback Cade Klubnik this week. The Clemson coach said Klubnik went back to work this week in practice and has done what he is supposed to do. “It’s exactly what I thought I would see, a guy go back to work. This is not his first rodeo. He is a very self-aware kid. He knows that he did not play well and there was nothing to predict that, like I said, he just had a bad day. Back to work and back to the basics and he will bounce back. Great leadership, that is what I see.”
