ESPN Analyst: Clemson Primed for ‘Big Bounce-Back’

This ESPN analyst says Clemson is primed for a big bounce-back win in Week 2.

ESPN sports betting analyst Joe Fortenbaugh pegged Clemson as one team that suffered a season-opening loss, that is ready to take it out on the competition this week.

The eighth-ranked Tigers are set to host Troy at Memorial Stadium on Saturday (3:30 p.m., ACC Network) after falling at home to LSU, 17-10, last Saturday.

Clemson is a 33.5-point favorite against Troy, a Sun Belt Conference team that’s coming off a 38-20 win over Nicholls last week.

“Clemson’s the big bounce-back… The last two times we saw Clemson lose a big opener – both came against Georgia – they came back the next week to win by 46 points each time,” Fortenbaugh said in an episode ESPN’s College Football Live.

“This is where the offense is going to want to get right after scoring just 10 points in that letdown.”

As Fortenbaugh alluded to, Clemson bounced back from a 34-3 loss to Georgia in last year’s season opener by beating App State, 66-20, a week later. Two seasons ago, in 2023, the Tigers throttled Charleston Southern, 66-17, after losing to Duke, 28-7, in that year’s season opener.

Clemson is 2-0 all-time against Troy — a 43-19 win in 2011 and a 30-24 win in 2016.

Clemson has historically rebounded well under head coach Dabo Swinney, as the Tigers are 37-10 in games following losses in his tenure.
