ESPN Analyst Throws Shade at Clemson

ESPN college football analyst Pat McAfee threw some shade at Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney on Saturday morning.

During Saturday’s edition of ESPN’s College GameDay, McAfee chimed in on the top-10 teams that lost in Week 1, including Swinney’s Tigers.

“I think the top-10 teams that played last week, just like [ESPN analyst] Stanford Steve has said, I think they’re all going to still have a great season going forward.”

“Clemson…,” McAfee continued, before hesitating.

ESPN’s lead college football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit, then asked McAfee what’s holding him back from Clemson.

“I don’t know,” McAfee said. “I just feel like the last couple years, watching them – I know Dabo’s done a lot for college football and everything, but in this transitional world that we’re in, he has not gone full bore. And Cade Klubnik, I’m a believer in, but it feels like every time I watch him in a big game, they don’t win. So, they have to get over that hump.”

Added McAfee: “Dabo’s sprinting down the hill good, but will they be able to continue, I’m not a hundred percent sure.”

After falling at home, 17-10, in the top-10 matchup vs. LSU last Saturday, eighth-ranked Clemson is set to host Troy at Memorial Stadium today (3:30 p.m., ACC Network).

Clemson is a 33.5-point favorite against Troy, a Sun Belt Conference team that’s coming off a 38-20 win over Nicholls last week.
