CLEMSON — The Clemson offense hasn’t been the hottest to start off 2025.
After an underwhelming performance against LSU last week, the eighth-ranked Tigers eked by the Troy Trojans on Saturday, 27-16, at Memorial Stadium. Although Clemson ended with the win, things didn’t start out too hot, as the offense had just 114 yards in the first 30 minutes.
It was a different story after halftime, as the Tigers came back to score 27 unanswered points, 24 in the second half. One of the main leaders of the offensive resurrection was starting running back Adam Randall, who earned his first 100-yard game in his career.
Randall spoke to the media about the success he found on the ground and how that affected the game against the Trojans.
“We knew that we needed a spark,” Randall said. “We knew we needed to get the offense going. We hadn’t played well in the first half…we knew that we had to correct some things in the second half and get to it.”
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said the Tigers ditched their zone run blocking schemes for its gap schemes, which paid off in the third and four quarters.
The Tigers (1-1) certainly got to it, and Randall was the main guy to get things going in the second half. After Clemson received the ball to start the half, Randall carried the ball five times for 59 yards on the ensuing 8-play, 75-yard drive, which included his one-yard touchdown run with 11:05 to play in the third quarter.
After that, the team had the spark that they needed, and the defense stepped up, earning multiple interceptions and putting the team in the position to score. Starting quarterback Cade Klubnik found receiver Bryant Wesco, Jr., for two touchdowns following Randall’s score, and the rest was history.
It was history for Randall as well, as he hit a milestone he hadn’t found before.
“I mean, shoot, it’s something I haven’t done since high school,” Randall said. “I’m blessed to have the opportunity, but I’m ready for next week to start ACC play. It’s real consequences next week.”
Randall and the Tigers face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta next Saturday at noon to kick off ACC Play.
