What They’re Saying: Clemson’s Ugly First Half vs. Troy

It certainly wasn’t a pretty first half for Clemson in Saturday’s game against Troy.

At one point, the eighth-ranked Tigers (1-1) trailed, 16-0, before rallying in the second half to beat the Trojans, 27-16.

What could go wrong did go wrong in the first half for Clemson, which came into the game as a 31-point favorite according to Sportsbook, but trailed 16-3 at halftime before outscoring the Trojans (1-1) 24-0 over the final two quarters.

The first half was embarrassing for many reasons. The Tigers were outgained 206 to 114, including a 62-17 advantage on the ground. Clemson was 2-for-8 on third down and averaged just 4.2 yards per play. The Tigers were in jeopardy of starting 0-2 for the first time since 1974, but fortunately for Dabo Swinney’s team, it turned things around after the break.
