Swinney Asked About No Visit Policy for Committed Recruits

Clemson has a longstanding policy in place under Dabo Swinney that recruits who are committed to the Tigers are not allowed to take visits to other schools.

So when news broke that four-star DE commit, Dre Quinn, was on campus at Tennessee on Saturday, eyebrows were raised.

Swinney was asked during his weekly press conference on Tuesday if that policy remains in place.

“Yes, that is a policy,” Swinney said. “And I don’t bring committed kids in here either. I don’t do that. I don’t visit committed guys here.”

Clemson landed a commitment from Quinn back in the summer, with the blue-chip talent choosing the Tigers over Texas. Tennessee was scheduled to get one of Quinn’s official visits, but that was scrapped after he committed to Clemson.

While Swinney’s no-visit policy has been a longstanding one, there have been some exceptions. Most notably, when Deshaun Watson took an unofficial visit to Auburn while committed to the Tigers.

Quinn is currently one of two defensive ends committed to Clemson in the 2026 recruiting class, and the highest-rated of the two. The class currently features 21 verbal pledges, with On3 ranking it No. 14 overall.

While there have been more than 250 decommits in the 2026 class across the country, Clemson has yet to have one. However, the Tigers did have a total of seven in the last recruiting cycle.

How this thing plays out with Quinn is still to be determined. As of now, he is still committed to Clemson, but he also suggested in an interview following the weekend trip to Knoxville that he was open to visiting Tennessee again.

And you can bet that is something that Swinney and the rest of the coaching staff are currently addressing with the talented defensive end.

“That is between us and the recruit,” the head coach said.
