A former Clemson star in the NFL could be sidelined for some time.
Atlanta Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell suffered a left hamstring injury in the team’s Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday. The former Tiger limped off the field late in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game.
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris provided an injury update on Terrell on Wednesday, saying he is week-to-week with the hamstring injury.
“He won’t be at practice today clearly,” Morris told reporters.
“I’d say week-to-week,” Morris added of Terrell’s status. “See how it goes. We’ll get a good feel for all that stuff as it goes. Obviously, those hamstrings are tricky. You don’t want to rush those things back, but you don’t want to shortchange a great player, either.”
Now in his sixth NFL season, Terrell has established himself as an indispensable member of Atlanta’s secondary since being selected by the Falcons in the first round (16th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder started each of the Falcons’ first two games this season, tallying nine total tackles and two pass breakups.
A 2021 All-Pro, Terrell has recorded six interceptions, as well as 51 pass breakups, across 80 games (all starts) his NFL career so far. Before the 2024 season, he and the Falcons agreed on a massive four-year, $81 million contract extension, which will keep the soon to be 27-year-old under contract with Atlanta through the 2028 season.
