CLEMSON — Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney spoke to the media following Wednesday’s practice, as the Tigers get set to host Syracuse Saturday (noon, ESPN) at Memorial Stadium
Below are a few notes from Wednesday’s media session.
–Earlier this week, Swinney said he wanted to see a desperate team when the Tigers take on the Orange. He was asked if that has shown up in practice this week? “We have practiced well. They responded well. They practiced well last week. We have to get it to translate to game day. It is just everybody making up their mind that they are going to go do it. We will find out on Saturday.”
–Swinney was also asked if their were any lineup changes for Saturday’s game, especially at cornerback and nickel where he has been hard on them this week. “We will see,” Swinney said.
–Swinney was asked about Syracuse coach Fran Brown and how his team plays with his personality, especially on defense. “He is a good coach. That is why they hired him to be a head coach. He is a defensive guy. They had a great year last year. They play tough, they play physical and they chase the ball. I think he has done an amazing job.”
–Swinney was asked about Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli, who leads the nation with 1,072 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. The Clemson coach was asked of Angeli’s lack of running style, will allow the Clemson pass rush to get to him this Saturday. “I think he runs better than people want to give him credit for. They will run some zone-read with him. He will throw it. He is a good scrambler. He may not be Haynes King, but he is very aware in the pocket. He has good instincts. They are not afraid to run him, that’s for sure. He is definitely a guy that will throw all over the park, but some of their big plays come from using his feet and creating some space. Off schedule type plays. He does a good job of that.”
