Tigers Plummet in National Outlet’s CFB Rankings

Clemson has unsurprisingly plummeted in this national outlet’s college football rankings.

After starting the season at No. 4, the Tigers (1-3, 0-2 ACC) have tumbled all the way down to No. 49 in the latest CBS Sports rankings of all 136 teams in the FBS.

“Tigers have dropped 36 spots in the last two weeks and 45 spots since the preseason rankings, and yet that probably isn’t even as close to how the fall from grace feels when it comes Clemson’s standing in the national landscape,” CBS Sports’ Chip Patterson wrote.

“Even when the bottom was falling out in 2023 (a season that still finished with a 9-4 record), there was not this much alarm in terms of how a team that appeared to be so much better on paper than they are in performance. The Tigers have a week off to reset before continuing their ACC schedule, but the path to a conference title and CFP contention is much less likely with an 0-2 start in conference play.”

Ohio State, Miami, Georgia and LSU remained the top four teams in the updated CBS Sports 136 rankings, with Penn State rounding out the top five. Florida State is also in the top 10 at No. 9, while former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables’ Oklahoma team is No. 7.

Here’s where every team on Clemson’s 2025 regular season schedule ranks in the latest CBS Sports 136:

  • LSU (No. 4)
