Will Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney bench any players next week due to underperformance?
Swinney was asked that question during his weekly radio show this week, as the Tigers sit at 1-3 entering their open date this weekend before returning to action at North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 4 (noon, ESPN).
Swinney’s answer to the aforementioned question was simple: “We’ll see.”
“We evaluate our guys every day,” he said. “We’ve got two weeks of prep here to get ready for North Carolina, and we’ll see how it all goes.”
Swinney also gave a short answer when asked how he can get all 11 players on each side of the ball to give 110 percent effort, at all times, following the 1-3 start.
“Accountability. Consequences,” Swinney said.
As for when Swinney knows it’s time for a change at a starting player position, or even a coaching position, Swinney says those decisions are determined by a number of different factors.
“You just kind of know when you know as a coach,” he said. “I’ve done it a long time. There’s not like one set thing. But you just kind of know when you know. It could be effort, it could be just performance. Obviously critical mistakes, things like that. Competition, whatever. There’s a lot of different reasons.”
