Tigers Win a 4-3 Thriller at No. 13 Wake Forest Friday Night

Nathan Richmond leads the way for the Tigers with his first brace of the season to grab a 4-3 win over No. 13 Wake Forest Friday night. Clemson hands Wake Forest their third ACC loss of the season and the Tigers move to 5-2-2 on the season. The win tonight marks the first win for Clemson at Wake Forest since 2022.

Wake Forest netted a goal first on a penalty kick that was originally ruled as a blocked shot but was overturned to a handball on Floki Stephensen to go ahead 1-0 in the 12′. Nathan Richmond waited just over a minute to net the first goal for Clemson in the bottom right corner off his left foot with an assist from Cooper Hineline to even the score 1-1 in the 13′. Hineline earned his first start of the season and made his presence known early.  The Tigers earned a corner kick and Lukas Magnason made it count. Magnason headed the ball in the top left of the net with an assist from Gyan to put the Tigers ahead 2-1 in the 20′. A free kick by the Demon Deacons in the 24′ evened the score 2-2. Gyan does what Gyan does best and netted his eighth goal of the season in the bottom left with an assist from Misei Yoshizawa to put Clemson ahead 3-2. Wake Forest scored in the 39′ on a tight header to the left corner of the goal to tie things up 3-3 headed into halftime.

The defense for both sides came out in the second half with 11 shots total for Clemson and Wake Forest combined for the first 26 minutes of the second half. In the 71′ Richmond decided to break the drought and net his second goal of the match to record his first brace of the season. Richmond nailed the ball through the defender’s legs with an assist from Gyan to put the Tigers up 4-3.
