CLEMSON — As Clemson looks to turnaround its season, the Tigers know where it begin and ends.
“It starts at practice with our details,” quarterback Cade Klubnik said on Wednesday.
Playing with focus and taking care of the details was one reason Clemson had little trouble disposing of North Carolina last week in Chapel Hill, N.C. From the outset, the Tigers were flawless in their execution, which is one reason why they scored 28 first-quarter points.
Clemson (2-3, 1-2 ACC) tallied 253 yards of offense in the opening 15 minutes, while averaging 15.8 yards per play.
“One of the biggest things that Coach [Dabo] Swinney said is we might have a had a really good Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but what does Thursday and Friday look like in our prep,” Klubnik said. “As a team, we did a really good job of focusing on the details and being really intentional on Thursday and Friday and maybe our travel day getting some extra hours in with our prep.”
The end result was a 38-10 victory.
Klubnik completed 22 of 24 passes for 254 yards and 4 TDs, easily his best performance of the year. Now, he and the Tigers hope to do it again on Saturday night (7:30, ACCN) when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., and take on the Boston College Eagles.
“Just being really intentional, but at the end of the day just going and playing free,” Klubnik said. “We are not playing for anybody’s approval. We are not doing anything like that, just playing for the guys around us and playing for ourselves. That is what we have to go do.”
