The King of Country Music is returning to Death Valley.
Country music legend George Strait is set to perform in Clemson on May 2, kicking off the new concert series “Death Valley Nights.” Strait has confirmed he will headline the “One Night Only” event with Cody Johnson and Wyatt Flores as special guests.
This will mark the first concert in Death Valley since 1999, which was also headlined by Strait.
In his Instagram announcement, Strait wrote, “The last time Death Valley hosted a concert was 1999 — and it was George Strait. In 2026, the King returns.”
“We’re excited to work with innovative entertainment professionals to deliver exceptional live music experiences at Clemson University,” said Graham Neff, Clemson’s Director of Athletics in a recent press release announcing the series. “Memorial Stadium is a world-class venue for hosting events and this collaboration between Clemson Ventures and Does Entertainment not only elevates the cultural opportunities on campus, but also strengthens our ties to the greater Upstate South Carolina community.”
Strait has sold more than 120 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has 33 different albums that are certified platinum or gold.
He currently holds the record for the most (60) number one songs on all charts by an artist, in any genre of music, including a record 44 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He has been nominated for 16 Grammy Awards, winning his first and only award for Best Country Album in 2009 with his album Troubadour.
Fans can register for early access starting now, with the presale set for Monday, October 27, at 10 a.m. ET and public on-sale Friday, October 31 at 10 a.m. ET.
Many major artists have performed at Death Valley during the late 1980s and 1990s, including Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Elton John and U2.
