Swinney Gives Injury Update on Wesco

Following Clemson’s 35-24 loss to SMU on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an injury update on star wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr.

Wesco left the game after taking a hard hit on a punt return in the third quarter. He went into the locker room and did not return to the game.

Swinney said they don’t know what is wrong with Wesco, but it’s serious and they hope he is OK.

“I don’t have anything on Wesco right now. It was a pretty serious deal,” Swinney said. “I have no information on him right now. We’ll just have to wait and see. Just really praying for him.”

TCI asked Swinney if Wesco is dealing with a head or neck injury, and Swinney said he does not want to speculate at this time, but he said it’s serious.

“It’s serious, and he needs all the thoughts and prayers he can get,” Swinney said. “It’s serious enough that we thought he needed to go to the hospital and be tested.”

Wesco, Clemson’s leading wide receiver on the season, left the game without a catch. He has 31 catches for 537 yards and six touchdowns this season.

Following an open date next weekend, the Tigers return to the field on Saturday, Nov. 1 against Duke at Death Valley.
