CLEMSON – The Clemson Tigers cut the SMU Mustangs’ lead to 10-7 with a 32-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christopher Vizzina to wide receiver T.J. Moore at Memorial Stadium Saturday with 8:51 left in the second quarter.
Vizzina, in his first collegiate start, began the drive with a 12-yard pass down the middle to Moore, and followed it with another first down gain with a pass to Antonio Williams, who was brought down on Clemson’s 47-yard line.
Vizzina then targeted Bryant Wesco Jr. for a deep pass down to the 10-yard line, but the sophomore wide receiver could not make the catch.
The drive seemed over two plays later, when the Tigers faced a 3rd-and-7 situation after failing to convert on five-of-six third down opportunities, but, to the relief of the crowd, Antonio Williams and his brand-new signal-caller connected for an 18-yard gain down to SMU’s 32-yard line.
Then, the touchdown to Moore electrified Memorial Stadium, for the first touchdown in Death Valley in October.
The offense had previously failed to score on five possessions in the first quarter.
