What are the Tigers playing for? Not much

CLEMSON — Clemson opened the 2025 season ranked No. 4 by the Associated Press. The expectations for the Tigers were to be playing for a national championship come late December and early January.

Eight weeks into the season, Clemson finds itself out of the College Football Playoff race, as well as repeating as ACC Champions. At 3-4, including a 2-3 record in the ACC, the only thing the Tigers have to play for is pride and to finish out the season in the best position possible.

“We just have to focus on going back to work, watching the tape and see what we have to do better fundamentally, technically, play call, if there are any personnel stuff…that is just what you do. You go to the next game,” Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said. “That is all we can do. We will try to get some guys healthy. We just got to go to the next one. That is all we can do.”

The next game will be against Duke on Nov. 1 at Memorial Stadium. The Tigers are going to try and end a five-game home losing streak to Power Conference opponents.

Clemson has not won a game against a Power Conference opponent since the Virgina game on October 19, 2024. The five-game Power Conference losing streak is the program’s longest since losing six straight in 1970 and 1971.

“You just reset, and you put your eyes on the next one. You can’t look five weeks from now, and we can’t look back,” Swinney said. “We truly have to pick ourselves up, stay together, let’s watch the tape and see what we can do better, coaching and playing. Let’s go have great practices… Try to improve in all areas.”
