Former Tiger Lands with Another NFL Team

A former Clemson standout has already landed with another NFL team.

The New York Giants are signing former Tiger wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud to their practice squad, per multiple reports.

McCloud was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday.

He was a healthy scratch for Atlanta’s last two games and was sent home ahead of the Falcons’ Week 7 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday that McCloud’s release was “performance-based” and was not disciplinary-related.

“Just gotta do what’s best for the team, every single week,” Morris said. “Every move you make is in order to get you better, in order to have better results, and that’s what we came to the conclusion as. Wish Ray-Ray nothing but the best. He provided us a lot last year. Had a great time with him when we had an opportunity to be together, and I wish nothing but the best.”

“Everything here is always going to be performance-based,” Morris added. “It’s always going to be based off what’s best for the football team… It was nothing disciplinary. It’s just all based off performance.”

McCloud signed with the Falcons before the 2024 season after spending the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the 49ers. Prior to that, the 5-foot-9, 185-pounder had stints with the Steelers (2020-21), Bills (2019-20) and Panthers (2019). He began his NFL career with the Bills in 2018 after being selected by the franchise in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

In the Falcons’ first four games this season, McCloud had six catches for 64 yards. He also returned two punts and four kicks on special teams.

Entering the 2025 campaign, McCloud had accumulated 152 receptions for 1,454 yards and two touchdowns in 94 games over the first seven years of his NFL career (2018-24), to go with 271 yards and another touchdown on 25 career carries, as well as 1,326 yards on 138 career punt returns and 2,799 yards on 122 career kickoff returns.

McCloud played at Clemson from 2015-17, recording 127 career receptions for 1,226 yards and four touchdowns over 40 games (20 starts). He also returned 50 punts for 485 yards with one touchdown and four kickoffs for 148 yards.
