Where Death Valley Landed in This CFB Stadiums Ranking

The Athletic surveyed its college football writers and editors to rank the 25 best college football stadiums.

Clemson’s Memorial Stadium/Death Valley landed at No. 15 on The Athletic’s list of the top 25 FBS stadiums.

“In 1985, Brent Musburger described Clemson’s tradition of touching Howard’s Rock and running down the hill to enter Death Valley as “the most exciting 25 seconds in college football.” Those words still hold up 40 years later. Dabo Swinney reaches top speed as the cannon goes off and he flies down the hill toward midfield, where he greets his team as players make their way down,” The Athletic’s Grace Raynor wrote.

“That tradition never fails to hype up a crowd that is loud and passionate, but also among the most welcoming in college football. Everybody needs to experience a Clemson game in person once — even better if it’s at night.”

Clemson’s Memorial Stadium checked in between Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium at No. 14, and Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium at No. 16.

LSU’s Tiger Stadium, where Clemson will open the 2026 season, is ranked No. 1. Penn State’s Beaver Stadium, Notre Dame’s Notre Dame Stadium, Ohio State’s Ohio Stadium and Michigan’s Michigan Stadium round out the top five.

As for other ACC stadiums besides Clemson, Florida State’s Doak Campbell Stadium is tied for 23rd, while Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium is No. 25.

South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium, Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium, North Carolina’s Kenan Memorial Stadium and Pitt’s Acrisure Stadium are some of the other stadiums that are unranked but received votes from The Athletic staffers.
