Swinney Gives Injury Update on Klubnik

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly radio show on Monday night and gave the latest injurry update on starting quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Of course, Klubnik did not play in the Tigers’ most recent game – the 35-24 loss to SMU on Oct. 18 — snapping his 34-game starting streak. The senior signal caller sprained an ankle late in the third quarter of the win at Boston College on Oct. 11, an injury that does not require surgery.

After being unable to practice all of the week leading up to the SMU game, Klubnik still took the field during pregame and tried to give it a go. However, after about five minutes of warm-ups, it became clear that it just wasn’t meant to be.

Backup Chris Vizzina filled in admirably, throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns.

On Monday evening, Swinney updated Klubnik’s status entering Saturday’s game vs. Duke.

“Hopefully, we get Cade back this week,” Swinney said.

Swinney was asked what his expectations for Klubnik are this week.

“To be ready to play and to play well,” Swinney said.

Over the first six games this season, Klubnik completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,530 yards and 11 touchdown passes with five interceptions, while also rushing 104 yards and two more scores.

Following this past weekend’s open date, the Tigers (3-4, 2-3 ACC) return to the field on Saturday to host Duke at Memorial Stadium (noon, ACC Network).
