Clemson Needs to Win, Especially at Home

CLEMSON — The Clemson Tigers have had a rough streak of games this year, and most of their losses have been at Memorial Stadium.

At a record of 3-4 (2-3 ACC), the Tigers are entering a stretch of five games following a loss at home to the SMU Mustangs. Most of Clemson’s victories have come in road games (Boston College and North Carolina), while the energy is often lacking in Death Valley.

Clemson has lost five straight home games to Power Conference opponents dating back to last year’s loss to Louisville. It is the longest home losing streak to Power Conference opponents since a stretch of six straight losses between 1970 and 1971.

Starting linebacker Wade Woodaz spoke with the media on Wednesday and shared his thoughts on the goal of winning more at home.

“Yeah, we want to win every week,” Woodaz said. “It doesn’t matter where we play or who we play, we want to win.”

Obviously, winning in general is the most important part, not only winning at home. With preseason expectations of a possible undefeated season and a national championship run, the Tigers have fallen flat and struggled on both sides of the ball. However, it doesn’t mean that all is lost.

“I’ve poured everything I had into this season, into the offseason, into getting to where we want to go,” Woodaz said. “Sometimes, you just don’t get the results you want, but that’s life. I mean, it took Steve Jobs ten years to make an iPhone, right?”

The Tigers are looking for their work to produce results, and there are a few more games to turn things around. Facing Duke and Florida State at home will present a challenge, and traveling to hostile environments against Louisville and South Carolina will be a significant test to see if the hard work will pay off.

“We just have to bring back the energy to Death Valley,” defensive back Avieon Terrell said. “That’s what we’ve been trying to do, and I feel like this is going to be the week where we bring back that energy to Death Valley.”

Clemson will look to spark the energy at home against the Duke Blue Devils this Saturday at noon in Memorial Stadium.
