One of the top defensive tackles in the 2028 class made his first visit to Clemson last weekend.
Four-star Jamarcus Johnson (Toombs County, GA) made the trip in to see the Tigers’ last-minute loss to Duke, getting an initial look at Dabo Swinney’s program.
Having an opportunity to start building a relationship with defensive tackles coach Nick Eason was one of the highlights of the visit, seeing as Johnson attends the same high school that Johnson does currently.
“Seeing the bond that the team had,” Johnson told The Clemson Insider. “And the pregame speaking by coach Nick Eason, because I play for the same high school he played for.”
While Clemson is in the midst of what might be the worst season of the Swinney era, Johnson says that doesn’t change how he views the program.
“I still view them as a great team,” Johnson added. “Because of the effort that they give.”
The 6-foot-5, 308-pound defensive lineman is considered one of the top tackles in his class. He ranks No. 77 overall at 247Sports and No. 8 among all players at his position. He also ranks No. 5 in the state of Georgia.
Florida State, Florida, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Georgia are some of the schools to have already offered. He’s already visited Florida State, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and Georgia, with future visits planned to Alabama and Tennessee. He also plans to get back to both Georgia and Georgia Tech.
While Johnson is well aware that the Tigers won’t start offering players in his class until June, it’s one he is hoping to add to the list at some point in the future.
“It would feel great to get an offer from Clemson,” Johnson said. “That would be really exciting.”
