After Clemson’s 24-10 win over Florida State last Saturday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney mentioned that starting quarterback Cade Klubnik was battling a quad contusion leading up to the game against the Seminoles — and not the ankle injury that he suffered at Boston College on Oct. 11, which caused him to miss the SMU game one week later.
During his weekly Tuesday press conference ahead of Friday night’s game at Louisville, Swinney gave the latest injury update on Klubnik when asked how much he’s been able to practice this week with the quad injury, which he suffered in the game against Duke on Nov. 1.
“The ankle is good. He didn’t really have any problems within the [FSU] game from the ankle,” Swinney said. “But he could hardly walk last week because his thigh was so swollen and blown up. He got better each day, and sure enough, he was right. He was ready on gameday.”
Swinney added that Klubnik is doing “a lot better” heading into the Louisville game.
“He’s a lot better than he was this time last week,” Swinney said. “He couldn’t even practice. So, he’s doing better.”
Against FSU, Klubnik completed 20-of-27 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. The senior signal caller also scored his third rushing touchdown of the season on a 4-yard score on Clemson’s opening drive.
Klubnik has now gone three consecutive games and 108 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. In eight games this season, the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has completed 67.9% of his passes for 2,136 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions, while also rushing for 117 yards and three scores on 59 carries.
Klubnik and the Tigers will hit the road to face Louisville on Friday at the Cardinals’ L&N Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.
