CLEMSON — Clemson running back David Eziomume has seen his minimal snaps decrease even more in recent weeks.
After beginning the season as the backup to Adam Randall and seeing action on each of the first seven contests, Eziomume has not logged a single snap over the last two games.
“Just not enough snaps,” head coach Dabo Swinney said. “I mean, that’s just where we are. We would like to get them all in there, we would like to play them all, but it has got to work out that way.”
With the emergence of Gideon Davidson, the true freshman has now passed Eziomume on the depth chart.
Davidson has thrived in his opportunities behind starter Adam Randall, rushing for 90 yards over the past two games while averaging four yards per carry.
“Gid is where he’s at,” Swinney said. “Those two guys have gotten the majority of the snaps. Got a good little rotation.”
However, that hasn’t changed the way Swinney views Eziomume. Some players develop faster than others, and that appears to be the case here.
With Randall out of eligibility after the season, Eziomume could still be a big part of the Tigers’ future.
“It’s not anything against David,” Swinney said. “I think he is a great player and going to have a lot of great days ahead. He is a redshirt freshman, and that is just where we are right now.”
