Former Tiger Gives His Pick for Clemson vs. Louisville

Coming off a 24-10 home win over Florida State last Saturday, Clemson (4-5, 3-4 ACC) will try to keep the ball rolling tonight at No. 20 Louisville (7-2, 4-2 ACC).

Was last week’s game the one that pushes the Tigers forward and propels them to a strong finish?

Former Georgia quarterback/ESPN analyst Aaron Murray asked that question to former Clemson offensive lineman/ACC Network analyst Eric Mac Lain on the Mac & Murray CFB Show.

Mac Lain pointed to the recent performance of Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik, who has rounded into form of late after experiencing his share of struggles to start the season.

“Cade Klubnik’s been playing really good since October 1. He’s a totally different guy,” Mac Lain said. “You look at his stats, you look at his QBR, his touchdown-to-interception ratio. And I kind of did some extra digging on that. I’m like, ‘Ok, has he just played BS teams?’ He’s played teams in the top 10 in pass defense, teams in the 30s in pass defense, so it’s a mixed bag there of what he’s faced, and he’s done really well.”

As for Louisville, the Cardinals are fresh off a major upset loss last Saturday, falling 29-26 at home to Cal in overtime. Louisville was favored by 18.5 points entering that contest.

“This Louisville team looked like they fell off a cliff last week,” Mac Lain said. “Just totally incompetent. Can’t move the ball at the quarterback position. [Louisville quarterback] Miller Moss has sadly just regressed. A team that I thought could take some steps, they have not. And maybe we didn’t account for how much of a factor their best player in [running back] Isaac Brown being out really had. I think that’s a really big deal going into this game because that’s kind of their superpower. That’s where Clemson got housed by them last year in Clemson.”

Clemson leads the all-time series with Louisville, 8-1, but the Cardinals earned that only win against the Tigers in series history last season with a 33-21 victory at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium.

However, Clemson remains 4-0 in road games at Louisville, and Mac Lain thinks the Tigers will earn another road win over the Cardinals tonight.

“So now on the road, [the Tigers] have revenge on their mind,” Mac Lain said. “Louisville has trying to stay relevant on their mind. Call me a homer — two weeks ago I would not have said this — right now, I think Clemson wins this game. … So, give me the Tigers.”

Louisville is a 2.5-point favorite entering tonight’s game, which is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
