LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The injuries continue to mount for Clemson along the offensive line.
Veteran right guard Walker Parks went down in the fourth quarter of the Tigers’ win over Louisville on Friday night. Parks was seen after the game on crutches and in a walking boot. The sixth-year senior has already missed five games this season, dealing with injuries.
“We’ll have to see where Walker is and kind of what happened,” head coach Dabo Swinney said after the win. “I don’t really have much detail on that.”
“I know that game meant a lot to him,” Swinney added of Parks, a native of Lexington, Ky., and the son of former Kentucky offensive lineman David Parks. “He’s from up here, and his dad played at Kentucky, so I gave him a game ball at the end. So, really happy for Walker Parks.”
To add insult to injury, starting left guard Brayden Jacobs was injured after the win. The true freshman went down in the postgame celebration and was being attended to by trainers. Later on, Jacobs was seen in a walking boot, with a very noticeable limp. He was not using crutches, though.
Swinney provided no update on Jacobs in his postgame press conference.
The Tigers have already lost Elyjah Thurmon for the season. Collin Sadler has been dealing with an injury in recent weeks. Starting left tackle Tristan Leigh missed several games before returning recently. True freshman Easton Ware has been out all season with a shoulder injury.
With Parks and Jacobs now being added to the walking wounded, Clemson might have to run out another group of starters when the team returns to action on Saturday against Furman. With the game against Louisville being on a Friday night, Parks and Jacobs will have an extra day of rest. We will see if that aids in their recovery.
