True Freshman Clemson OL Out for Season

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his weekly Zoom conference call with the media on Sunday afternoon, following the Tigers’ 20-19 win at No. 20 Louisville on Friday night.

Swinney gave an injury update on true freshman offensive lineman Brayden Jacobs, who was injured after the win.

Jacobs went down in the postgame celebration and was being attended to by trainers. Later on, Jacobs was seen in a walking boot, with a very noticeable limp. He was not using crutches, though.

On Sunday, Swinney said Jacobs has a foot injury and will be out for the season as well, like veteran OL Walker Parks.

“Had another really kind of funky, unusual injury,” Swinney said. “But Brayden Jacobs has got a foot injury, and that’s gonna pretty much put him down for the remainder of the season as well, with just a couple games left.

“It really wasn’t a part of the game. It was just him celebrating after the game out on the field, and I think he just kind of came down on his foot wrong. So, he’ll be out as well.”

Swinney added that Jacobs should be back full go for the spring.

“The positive for him is he should be ready to go for spring and all that,” Swinney said. “But he did have an opportunity, as we all know, to play a huge role, to become a starter and to play really, really well at two positions this season. So, that’s a positive and something that he can take with him as he goes into his offseason and gets himself back ready to go.”

Jacobs, a highly regarded offensive lineman who is the son of former NFL running back Brandon Jacobs, has started four straight games for the Tigers dating back to the SMU game on Oct. 18.

Clemson (5-5, 4-4 ACC) returns to the field on Saturday to host Furman at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. on The CW.
