Swinney Gives Update on Injured Tight End

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media following the Tigers’ 45-10 victory over Furman on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Swinney gave an injury update on junior tight end Olsen Patt-Henry, who was injured in the first quarter of Saturday’s game. The Clemson head coach announced that the tight end will miss the rest of the season and will have to have surgery.

“I think he has a patella tendon,” Swinney said. “He has to have an MRI, but they feel pretty confident what it is, it is not an ACL or anything, but they still have to go in there and fix it. I hate that.”

The patella tendon connects the kneecap to the shinbone. It works with the quadriceps muscles to straighten the leg and is crucial for movements like walking, running, and jumping.

Patt-Henry was injured on his fourth-and-7 catch on the Tigers’ second drive. Patt-Henry made the 12-yard catch from quarterback Cade Klubnik, which extended the drive and set up Klubnik’s 22-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Williams a few moments later for a 10-0 lead.

After his 12-yard catch, Patt-Henry came up grabbing his knee and immediately went to the injury tent. He came out of the tent on crutches and immediately was assisted to the locker room.

Patt-Henry’s 12-yard catch was his lone reception of Saturday’s game. The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder entered Saturday’s game with 15 catches for 114 yards across 10 games this season (nine starts).

Patt-Henry came into the 2025 season with 12 career receptions for 163 yards over 20 career games (one start) from 2023-24.

Clemson (6-5) returns to action next Saturday against rival South Carolina. Kickoff at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia is set for noon on SEC Network.
