Thursday Clemson Coaching Update

CLEMSON — Clemson will find out where it will be bowling in 2025 on Sunday, when ESPN announces the College Football Playoff field and the bowl pairings for the 2025 College Football Bowl Season.

However, there is a lot going on inside the Clemson Football program behind the scenes. As The Clemson Insider reported on Wednesday, former senior offensive assistant coach John Grass was going to be named the next head coach at Samford University. That has since come to fruition, as Samford officially named Grass as its new head coach.

TCI also reported that Grass would likely take safeties coach Mickey Conn with him to Samford as an assistant coach. We can now confirm that Conn will also be heading to Samford, according to our sources. We’ve reported several times over the past few weeks that staff changes were expected and that in some cases it would be best for all parties if they found jobs elsewhere. Conn’s departure is a perfect example.

According to those same sources, we can also tell you that you could see a additional Clemson staffers go with Grass to Samford, and possibly some players.

As we reported earlier this week, there could be more defections from the Clemson coaching staff this off-season. Conn is the first of the on field coaches to go.

TCI learned on Thursday that another defensive coach could be on his way out the door, too. From what we have been told from multiple sources, this defensive coach could possibly end up in the NFL.
