Clemson’s Bowl Destination in Place

CLEMSON — Clemson is headed to its 21 consecutive bowl game and its 52 bowl appearance overall.

The Tigers will be playing in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27 where they will take on Penn State of the Big Ten. The bowl game is set to kick off at noon at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York.

It will mark the second time Clemson has played Penn State. Clemson won 35-10 in the 1988 Citrus Bowl.

Clemson’s 21 consecutive appearances is the longest active streak in the ACC and the fourth active longest streak in college football. This will be the Tigers 21 bowl appearance under head coach Dabo Swinney. The Tigers are 12-8 in bowl games under Swinney (also counting College Football Playoff and CFP National Championship Games) since 2008.

Overall, the Tigers have won 27 bowl games, tied for the 11th most in college football history.

The Tigers (7-5) have played in a bowl game in 37 of the last 41 years. That is among the top-10 bowl appearances since 1985. Clemson has also been bowl-eligible 27 consecutive years, and will be making its 42 bowl appearance since 1977.

Clemson has beaten some of the top programs in college football history in bowl games. The list of schools Clemson has beaten in a bowl game includes prominent programs Alabama, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Overall, 15 of Clemson’s 27 bowl wins have come against head coaches who are in the College Football
Hall of Fame. The Tigers also have eight bowl wins over top-10 teams since 2012.

Clemson’s first bowl game was a 6-3 victory over Bos ton College and head coach Frank Leahy in the 1940 Cotton Bowl.

Clemson is 8-2 in its history in bowl games against Nebraska, Ohio State and Oklahoma, three of the
top-eight programs in college football history in terms of wins. Clemson is the only program to have beaten Oklahoma three times in bowl play and is one of only three schools with multiple bowl victories over the Sooners to its credit.

The Tigers are 4-1 vs. Ohio State and 1-1 vs. Nebraska. Including a 1-0 bowl mark against Notre Dame, 1-0 record against Penn State and 2-2 bowl record against Alabama, Clemson is 12-4 in bowls all-time against the eight winningest programs in major college football history.

Between both bowl games and conference title games, Clemson has won at least one postseason game in 14 straight years, the longest streak in FBS history.
