CLEMSON — Let me get this straight.
Notre Dame is still whining.
It has been more than 48 hours since the Fighting Irish were locked out of the College Football Playoff, and they are still whining about how the ACC conspired to keep them out.
What did Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua expect the ACC to do? Sit back and let Miami, which is a full member institution, go to the Gator Bowl, while Notre Dame, a non-football member, went to the CFP and collected a $4 million check it does not share with anyone?
Yeah, that seems fair.
Last year, Notre Dame collected $20 million from the CFP for making its way to the national championship game. Guess how much of that money the Irish shared with the rest of the ACC?
That would be zero.
I guess the ACC should have sat back and let Notre Dame have their way, like they always have.
Does Bevacqua actually expect anyone who is not a Notre Dame fan or alumni to feel sorry for Notre Dame? It’s about time the Irish had to come down from the pedestal of their Golden Dome and join the rest of those who live by the constant disappointment life throws at us.
As my stepdad often said when I was growing up and did not get my way, “Hey Kido! Life is not fair sometimes.”
Guess what, Notre Dame? Life is not fair.
I can understand why Bevacqua and the Irish are complaining like a bunch of spoiled brats. Look at it this way, they always get what they want.
Name another college team that has its own television contract with a major network and does not share that revenue with anyone else?
Name another school who is not in a conference that has a seat at the Big Boy Table regarding the CFP? Name another school that was not in a conference when COVID hit, but was helped and was able to put together a complete schedule and participate in the league’s championship game?
Name another school who is not in a conference, who is involved in all the major decisions of college football when everyone else is represented by a conference?
So, excuse us Bevacqua if we do not feel sorry for you.
The thing is you have no one to blame but yourself. You played Miami and got beat. I do not care when it happened. You got beat.
When two programs are the same, head-to-head matters.
I understand, the CFP Committee led you on for five weeks, but you should have never been in front of Miami to begin with.
The CFP did not make a mistake on Sunday, they corrected a mistake. Now, if you want to get on to the CFP Committee for showing favoritism to one school, then look no further than Alabama.
But that is a whole different column all together.
