CLEMSON — The Clemson football team held its fourth bowl practice Monday, as the Tigers get set to play Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium in New York.
The media was allowed to watch the first six and a half periods of practice behind the Allen Reeves Football Complex. As head coach Dabo Swinney mentioned prior to practice, Clemson is down 26 scholarship players for the Pinstripe Bowl, which includes the five players who are entering the transfer portal and the four players that opted out for the NFL Draft.
Here are a few notes we gathered from our time at practice:
–We noticed quarterback Cade Klubnik did not throw the football on the times we were watching him. It seemed as if he was taking mental reps. He was not even throwing the football earlier in practice when the quarterbacks were warming up. He was just taking the football and acting like he was going to throw it.
–Speaking of Klubnik, he was using the cold weather on Monday to get himself adjusted to the cold weather in New York. At the start of practice, the temperature in Clemson was 38 degrees and the Tigers quarterback was sleeveless.
–As expected, embattled coaches Garrett Riley and Mickey Conn were working with their position groups at practice. Riley, the Tigers’ offensive coordinator, was coaching the quarterbacks, while Conn was working with safeties.
–Clemson’s director of communications for football, Ross Taylor, told us several players missed practice on Monday due to the flu that is going around the team.
–We noticed wide receiver Cole Turner was wearing a yellow jersey during practice. We also noticed fellow wideout T.J. Moore was wearing a green jersey.
–With Antonio Williams out of the game due to an injury, Tyler Brown and Tristan Smith were catching punts.
–With Collin Sadler out of the game due to shoulder surgery, Ronan O’Connell was playing first-team left guard.
