Trevor Lawrence enjoyed the best performance of his pro career on Sunday in Week 15 of the NFL season.
The former Clemson star quarterback put together a legendary performance, making NFL history while accounting for six touchdowns and leading the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 48-20 victory over the New York Jets at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
Lawrence completed 20-of-32 passes for 330 yards and threw a career-high five touchdown passes with no interceptions, while also rushing for 51 yards and another score on five carries.
In the process, the former No. 1 overall pick became the first player in NFL history with 5+ touchdown passes, 1+ touchdown run and 50+ rushing yards in a single game.
Jaguars running back Travis Etienne – who played with Lawrence for three years at Clemson, and has played with him for four seasons in Jacksonville – is among those who were highly impressed by what Lawrence did on Sunday against the Jets.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Trev like this,” said Etienne, who caught three of Lawrence’s touchdown passes.
“We won a national championship together… He’s on fire, man… Man, I’m just grateful that I’m on his team, and the growth that I’ve seen from him, it’s just unbelievable, and it forces everybody else to step up their game as well.”
Lawrence has now gone three straight games without a turnover for the first time in his five-year NFL career. His 136.7 passer rating on Sunday was the highest of his career.
In addition to his TD passes of 20, 8 and 45 yards to Etienne, Lawrence threw a 4-yard TD to Brian Thomas Jr. and a 16-yarder to Bhayshul Tuten.
Liam Coen, in his first year as the Jaguars’ head coach, says Sunday was “absolutely” one of the best days he’s seen from Lawrence in terms of just throwing the ball.
“I think you would say one of the best ones he’s had, absolutely,” Coen said. “You could feel it, though, like throughout the weeks, the last few weeks especially, that he’s continuously gaining more and more confidence, continuity and chemistry with the guys that he’s playing with, executing the plan… I would say that was one of his better performances that I’ve seen.”
The Jaguars, who sit atop the AFC South standings with a 10-4 record, have won five straight games and six of seven since their Week 8 bye.
The Jags will hit the road to face the 12-2 Denver Broncos this Sunday in Week 16.
