Garrett Riley Gives Injury Update on Cade Klubnik

Clemson offensive coordinator Garrett Riley met with the media on Wednesday and gave an injury update on starting quarterback Cade Klubnik.

Clemson wide receiver Tyler Brown disclosed on Monday that Klubnik is dealing with a thumb injury.

The senior signal caller was not throwing the football during practice on Monday as the Tigers continued to prep for the Pinstripe Bowl vs. Penn State. He was taking reps, but just wasn’t actually making any throws.

On Wednesday, Riley commented on Klubnik’s health status and availability for the bowl game, saying he “absolutely” expects Klubnik to be ready to go against the Nittany Lions.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Riley said. “I mean, he gradually has been kind of getting implemented more and more in practice these last, whatever, couple of days. So, I fully expect him to be ready to go, and expect his workload to increase daily.”

Klubnik, who is getting ready to play his final collegiate game, has dealt with multiple injuries during his senior campaign. A high ankle sprain suffered in the road win at Boston College kept him out against SMU the following week. Klubnik has also dealt with a quad injury this year.

This season, Klubnik has thrown for 2,750 yards with 16 touchdown passes and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 107 more yards and four more scores.

The Pinstripe Bowl between Clemson (7-5) and Penn State (6-6) is set for Dec. 27. Kickoff from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is set for noon and the game will be televised on ABC.
