Highly-Touted OL Target Returning to Clemson

A priority offensive line target will be back in Clemson in the near future.

Four-star Carter Jones (Poquoson, VA) tells The Clemson Insider he plans to be back on campus for the annual Elite Retreat on March 7. Jones earned first-team All-District and All-Region honors as a junior.

“I am very excited for it,” Jones told TCI.

Jones, who picked up one of the Tigers’ opening offers back in June, has a family connection to Clemson. His uncle, Glenn Rountree, was a starting offensive lineman for the Tigers. Rountree became just the sixth offensive lineman since the 1980s to earn a starting job as a freshman. Rountree started all four of his seasons (1994-97) and was the first player in program history to log 3,000 snaps. He also earned All-ACC honors as a junior and a senior.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound prospect has already made numerous visits to Clemson, with his last one coming for the season-opening loss to LSU.

“It really showed me how much the fans care about the Clemson program and how crazy they are about it,” Jones said after the visit. “Win or lose, just how much they care about it. It was definitely rocking that night.”

The blue-chip talent also took in-season visits to Texas, Tennessee, LSU, Penn State, Virginia, Ohio State and Alabama. In total, he has close to three dozen offers and is expected to announce a Top 10 list in the near future.

247 ranks Jones No. 220 overall and as the third-best player in the state of Virginia.
