Lawrence’s Legs Put Jaguars on Verge of Division Title

Former Clemson star Trevor Lawrence utilized his legs to help the Jacksonville Jaguars win their seventh game in a row and put them on the verge of a division title.

Lawrence did not throw a touchdown pass for the first time since Nov. 2 and threw his first interception since Nov. 23, but the quarterback accounted for both of Jacksonville’s touchdowns with two rushing scores, leading the Jags to a 23-17 road victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Week 17 of the NFL season.

Lawrence finished 23-of-37 passing for 263 yards while rushing eight times for 26 yards, including a 4-yard TD run in the second quarter and a 6-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Lawrence’s five-game streak with two-plus passing touchdowns, which is tied for a team record, came to an end on Sunday. However, in his last five games, including vs. the Colts, the 2021 No. 1 overall pick has thrown for 1,345 yards with 16 total TDs and just one interception.

Jacksonville (12-4) has already clinched a playoff berth, and after the win over the Colts, the Jags can clinch the AFC South title with a victory at home against the Tennessee Titans (3-13) next Sunday in Week 18.

It would be the first AFC South title since 2022 for the Jaguars, who are also in the hunt for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

“It’s a long season to play, and you never know how it’s gonna play out, but we have all the confidence in the world in our locker room that it should be us. So, we gotta go and finish the job next week,” Lawrence said. “We need our fans to come out and support and make it a great atmosphere, tough atmosphere to play in for Tennessee. Obviously, it’s a huge game – division game against the Titans, to win the AFC South. It’s huge, so we know what we gotta do. We gotta have a great week of prep and put a good plan together.”
