A former Clemson standout defender is reportedly set to visit a couple of SEC schools.

Clemson transfer safety Khalil Barnes will visit Georgia on Saturday and Ole Miss from Sunday to Monday, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

The transfer portal officially opened Friday. On Dec. 9, Barnes announced his intent to enter the portal when it opened. He will have one season of eligibility left.

Barnes burst onto the scene in his debut season in 2023, earning freshman All-American honors while becoming the first Clemson player in the Dabo Swinney era to record multiple forced fumbles and multiple interceptions in a freshman season.

As a junior in 2025, Barnes recorded 46 tackles (one for loss) and five pass breakups in 521 defensive snaps over 10 games (nine starts). It marked the first season of his career that he did not record an interception. He picked off three passes as a freshman and four more during his sophomore campaign.

The 6-foot, 200-pounder was credited with 147 tackles (6.5 for loss), 16 pass breakups, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles, a sack and a fumble recovery (which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown) over 37 games (30 starts) during his career as a Tiger from 2023-25.

Barnes was the only player in the nation to record at least seven interceptions and at least three forced fumbles across the 2023-24 campaigns, and his seven interceptions across 2023-24 were the most by a Clemson player across his freshman and sophomore seasons since Rashard Hall’s eight interceptions in his first two seasons in 2009-10.
